As it is getting towards that cosy time of year, what better to find some new feel-good shows to spend your evenings with? Here are five of my current favourites that I hope will also become your go-tos over the upcoming months!

Trying – Apple TV

Unable to have a baby, Nicki and Jason dive head first into the world of adoption, juggling crises of their family and friends along the way. It’s set in Camden, it is so heartwarming, it is now three seasons in (with plans for a fourth!) and it is my absolute favourite show ever. The perfect comfort watch that will make you both laugh and cry, it is a hidden gem that I cannot recommend enough.

Avoidance – BBC iPlayer

Ramesh Ranganathan stars as Jonathan, a people-pleaser who struggles to get back on his feet and put on a brave face for his son after his wife leaves him. The sitcom currently has six episodes to stream on BBC iPlayer and also stars Mandeep Dhillon and Jessica Knappett.

Virgin River – Netflix

Nurse Mel Monroe swaps her day-job in an intense Los Angeles hospital for life in a town with a much slower pace: Virgin River. The Netflix hit starring Alexandra Brackenbridge now has four seasons and it’s great if you’re after something cosy with a little bit of drama as well – the show masterfully combines great cliffhangers with familiar characters.

Single Parents – Disney+

New Girl creator Elizabeth Merriweather followed up the hit with a lesser known gem, Single Parents and it is available to stream on Disney+. Starring Leighton Meester (Blair Waldorf in Gossip Girl), the sitcom follows five single parents of young children and the weird and wonderful adventures their friendship endures.

Ted Lasso – Apple TV

Reeling from divorce by her cheating husband, Rebecca plans to take down the football club she now finds herself in charge of, with the unassuming help of American coach Ted Lasso. I finally gave into the hype of Apple TV’s biggest hit and it has lived up to its praise; it mixes witty British humour and culture with genuinely endearing moments incredibly well. Its three-dimensional characters are very well-written – Ted is optimistic but not naive, Rebecca is angry but not a monster. This is my current cosy watch and I can’t get enough!

And a bonus one, just because we’ve reached the beginning of autumn… how could I not mention Gilmore Girls? It is autumn in a show – the sleepy Stars Hollow setting with its picturesque autumn leaves and pumpkins makes it the perfect show to wrap up warm and enjoy with a hot drink, and I haven’t even mentioned it’s brilliantly witty and comforting storylines yet, led by mother-daughter duo Lorelai and Rory. If you’ve watched it many times before like I have – this is your annual autumnal reminder to give it a rewatch!
