Beauty Pie First Impressions

Beauty Pie is the much-hyped the beauty club with exclusive member prices. Here’s what I thought of my first six products from their site.

Beauty Pie cleanser and SPF held to camera

It has been a LONG time since I wrote a beauty blog post, but as I did my first order with Beauty Pie a couple of weeks ago it felt like the perfect opportunity to share my thoughts.

Now, if you haven’t heard of Beauty Pie before, where have you been? It’s an exclusive club where membership grants access to the highest quality beauty products without the typically high retail price. I had been uuming and aahing about trying it out for years, but the membership used to be a little more complex, with different tiers that would unlock certain spend limits each month. Nowadays, it has been simplified, with no spending limit and the choice of either a £10 a month membership, or £59 annually (working out at £4.95 a month). I gave Beauty Pie a go with their 60 day free trial, plus the offer of £20 off my first order (on a £60+ spend). On this purchase, I didn’t pay anything towards membership, and got to try six skincare and makeup products for £61 – a total steal! But how do the products fare?

Beauty Pie offer a skincare quiz with the perfect recommendations to suit both your skin type and daily routine. The perfect way to try out their products for the first time, you can both try out something you would actually use and won’t get too overwhelmed by the sheer range of products available! The three products I was recommended to try are…

Super Healthy Skin Ultralight UVA/UVB SPF25

One of the most photograhed Beauty Pie products on Instagram, I was very happy it suggested I try one of their products I was already aware of, the Ultralight SPF. Its sleek packaging looks lovely on the shelf and its slim nozzle makes it very easy to squeeze onto your face without it dripping everywhere! It absorbs into the skin quickly with a slightly tacky feel, that gives it a double use as a makeup primer. It’s unscented and blends completely into the skin without any kind of finish, which is exactly how an SPF should be. While I will opt for a higher SPF during the summer months, such as the La Roche Posay Factor 50, this is great for daily use.

Beauty Pie SPF

Superdrops Brightening Niacinamide

A serum isn’t part of my daily skincare routine, but the quiz suggested their Niacinamide drops. I’ve been using this before applying the SPF and haven’t noticed any major results from using it, so I’m not overly impressed. It has great reviews so I’m going to press on and see if it may just take a couple of weeks longer to notice a difference, but the skincare quiz may not have been quite on the money with this one.

Happy Face Extreme Relief Cica Moisture Cream

The final product recommended in the skincare quiz was a gel moisturiser described on their website as ‘like a cashmere blanket for your face.’ I’ve been using a tiny amount every evening on the most dry areas of my face, and have noticed a huge difference – those dry points don’t exist anymore! The gel formula feels very light and soothing, and it claims to be suitable for even the most sensitive of skin, which is a huge plus. It’s a 75ml tube and as I only use a little bit everyday, it will last a very long time!

Beauty Pie moisturiser

With the first three products in my basket, I then headed straight to the bestsellers section of the site to see if any more products caught my eye.

Japanfusion Pure Transforming Cleanser

Beauty Pie’s products all come in sleek, no fuss packaging but none is more chic than their bestselling cleanser. I’d usually opt for a gel cleanser instead of a cream like this one, but it removes makeup so easily and makes the skin feel so soft and smooth that I may have been converted. My only qualm is that I find its scent a tad chemically, so for £10 this is a winning cleanser.

Wonderfilter Brightening Primer

When trying Beauty Pie’s makeup range, I aimed to choose something that would fill a gap rather than duplicate what I already own. So a primer, something I don’t usually purchase, felt like a good fit. I’m not convinced of it’s abillity to prime, as my makeup applies no different with it underneath, but it does deliver in brightening the skin, providing a glow which is especially lovely in the dull winter months.

Beauty Pie contour wand

Quick Colour Contour Supergel

I love a liquid highlight or a liquid blush, but had only ever used powder bronzer products. Despite contour wands being all over the makeup world, from Charlotte Tilbury to ICONIC, I hadn’t wanted to spend on something I wasn’t sure I’d love – hence the Beauty Pie discount provided the perfect opportunity to give one a go. The liquid product comes through the sponge tip making it very easy to dab onto the skin. It’s challenging to get used to blending it, and I prefer its effect applied on top of a tinted moisturiser; it’s a bit heavy applied directly to bare skin. Overall, I’m keen to get used to this as I reckon it’s the sort of product that once you’ve got the hang of, you won’t look back!

Worth £30 | Beauty Pie Price £12.50

As you’ll have noticed, as you add each product to your basket they have a ‘typical price’, which is slashed in comparison to the Beauty Pie price you pay as a member. If you’re wondering how accurate that is; Charlotte Tilbury’s contour wands really are £30, the ‘typical price’ of the similar product sold on Beauty Pie. ‘Dupes’ were a huge deal in the industry a few years ago, but Beauty Pie claims that their products are just as premium as luxury beauty brands, they simply buy direct and cut out the middlemen.

Would I continue the Beauty Pie membership? I’ll certainly be making another order during the 60 day trial period, but after that it’s likely that instead of subscribing, I’ll dip in and out and get a membership for one month when I want to top up my favourites or try a couple of new items. There are plenty of beauty afficiados who would benefit from a rolling Beauty Pie membership, but I would never get through enough product to justify spending every month. Plus, Beauty Pie doesn’t have a like for like product for everything I use, so there’s no way it could be my one-stop-shop for all things beauty.
