Glossier’s mantra is ‘skincare first, makeup second’ and recently I have been inspired to adopt this approach a little more in my beauty routine. I have been experimenting a little more than usual with some skincare products and have found six that I cannot recommend to you enough.

The makeup remover – Glossier Milky Oil

I have given my first impressions of this product when I bought it a few months ago, and it is still a product I reach for whenever I’ve worn a lot of makeup – although of course this isn’t the case as much recently while in lockdown! A little goes a long way with this product, as only a couple of drops on a cotton pad will quickly and easily remove all makeup. I’d recommend following this up with a cleanser straight away to remove any remaining oily residue.

The Cleanser – The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser

The cleanser of choice has to be from The Ordinary. Their Squalene Cleanser is the perfect product for its affordable price, and is really easy to use either on its own in the shower or as part of a skincare routine with the rest of these products. It leaves me feeling so refreshed, although for me the scent reminds me of uni now because I used it daily while I was there!

The Toner – Pixi Glow Tonic*

Maybe my favourite product of the entire post because of how much of a difference it makes, the Pixi Glow Tonic is a cult favourite, adored by the masses, and it is easy to see why. I apply this nightly to the T-Zone of my face, the area that is often quite oily when I wake up, and it really works to keep the oil at bay. It really evens out the complexion while providing a boosting glow, as its name suggests.

The Exfoliant – Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant

I’m going to be writing up a full post about some Dermalogica products I’ve been trying out very soon, but one of my favourite products I’m using right now is their exfoliating powder. While its name suggests daily use, I prefer to simply use it whenever my skin feels a little dry. On areas that do tend to feel dry, which for me is always around my eyebrows, this works miracles in making the skin feel so much more smooth. It’s really easy to make this powder into a paste and it’s really gentle on the skin too.

The Moisturiser – Simple Light Moisturiser

I believe that Simple is such an underrated skincare brand; they are so affordable and never really go wrong! Their light moisturiser has been part of my skincare routine for years and years, and honestly? For the price point, no other moisturiser lives up to it for me. It is fragrance free and the perfect last step of my nightly skincare routine.

The Hand Cream – Body Shop Hand Cream

This is maybe more of a bodycare product than skincare? But it still deserves a mention! I hadn’t been a huge fan of hand cream in the past, Soap & Glory’s Hand Food made me think that they would all be as greasy as that one was, which just isn’t comfortable! So, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I love The Body Shop’s one, which is so soft and doesn’t leave any residual gross feeling, just settling into the skin nicely instead. Mine is one of the Christmas scents, juicy pear, however they offer it in many other scents – personally I’d recommend the mango scent!

What are your favourite skincare products?
